Eugenia Meltzer grew up in Champaign, Il. As a child, her summers were spent at Illinois Summer Youth Music and later Meadowmount. She studied violin with Paul Rolland and Endre Granat, getting her Bachelor’s at the University of Illinois. She then got her Masters in Music at the University of Wisconsin where she studied with Sydney Harth, concertmaster of the NY Philharmonic, who was in residence that year. She also did graduate work at the University of Minnesota. While in grad school she joined the musician’s union and played backup to big names like Dave Brubeck and Barry Manilow. “Those were fun years!”
Eugenia raised her family in Winnetka, IL where she also developed a big Suzuki program in the public schools. “I have always been a violin and piano teacher most of my life!”
Eugenia now teaches at the St. Paul Conservatory of Music, and started a string program at a local charter school.
She currently serves as EMSO’s Vice President.
