William is a retired university reference librarian. He has played the cello from early youth, beginning in the public schools of Des Moines, Iowa. Now living in St. Paul, William has been a member of East Metro Symphony Orchestra since Spring of 2025.
Decades ago, William studied with (now the late) Robert Jamieson, at the time the principal cellist of the Minnesota Orchestra, and later with teachers in the Netherlands.
He has played in many symphony, chamber, and opera orchestras: At the University of Iowa and the University of Minnesota; the Cedar Rapids Symphony; the Iowa Baroque Orchestra; the civic orchestras of St. Paul and Minneapolis; the orchestra at Cal Tech in Pasadena, California; and occasional substituting with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra and the Rochester (MN) Symphony.
He enjoys playing chamber music and has also for many years specialized in “early” music (baroque) performance practice.
William reads a lot, and writes poetry, especially sonnets.
